Ingredients

Scale

1 (28–32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, chopped

1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

½ cup BBQ sauce (your favorite)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Garlic powder (optional)

Toppings (optional):

Sliced jalapeños

Chopped green onions

Sour cream or ranch dressing

Bacon bits

Instructions

  • Bake tater tots according to package directions until crispy (about 25–30 minutes at 425°F).

  • While tots are baking, cook ground beef with chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  • On a large baking sheet, layer tater tots, beef mixture, and drizzle with BBQ sauce. Sprinkle cheese evenly on top.

  • Return to oven and bake for 10 more minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.

  • Top with extras like jalapeños, sour cream, and bacon just before serving.

Notes

  • Want to switch it up? Try using pulled pork, shredded chicken, or turkey instead of ground beef.

  • To make it gluten-free, use certified gluten-free tater tots and BBQ sauce.

  • Air fry tater tots for an extra crispy texture.

  • Serve on a cast iron skillet or sheet pan for a rustic party-ready look!
