1 (28–32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
½ cup BBQ sauce (your favorite)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Garlic powder (optional)
Sliced jalapeños
Chopped green onions
Sour cream or ranch dressing
Bacon bits
Bake tater tots according to package directions until crispy (about 25–30 minutes at 425°F).
While tots are baking, cook ground beef with chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
On a large baking sheet, layer tater tots, beef mixture, and drizzle with BBQ sauce. Sprinkle cheese evenly on top.
Return to oven and bake for 10 more minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Top with extras like jalapeños, sour cream, and bacon just before serving.
